What they’re saying about The Wisdom of Elephants

“Kathy's personal journey and her message is powerful and profound. She weaves together an inspiring message of hope, showing us how we all have the ability to ignite action to shape the world we want to live in.”

—Ami Vitale, Nikon Ambassador and National Geographic Photographer

“I absolutely love Kathy’s new book! Grief may have taken her to Amboseli but in nature and wildlife, she found renewal. The Wisdom of Elephants takes us on her journey, her quest to see the big tuskers which was indeed cathartic but she found much more – visual storytelling to “open hearts and minds to the threats of elephants and the environment.”

—Dr. Paula Kahumbu, CEO Wildlife Direct & National Geographic Explorer

"Kathy Karn's photography and reflections in The Wisdom of Elephants bring the sacred into our hearts. This beautiful book has magic in its ability to guide us to deepen our connections to ourselves, elephants, and nature."

—Zainab Salbi, author and co-founder of Daughters for Earth and Women for Women International.

"Majestic, poignant, awe-inspiring”

—Cindy Villanueva

“What a deeply beautiful book this is! In addition to her beautiful and evocative photographs of the elephants of Amboseli, Kathy invites us on her safari, her pilgrimage, so that we, too, can feel, see, and hear the gifts these elephants bestowed on her in the tender days after her mother’s passing—so that we, too, can taste their wisdom.”

—Mary Ann Buris, Founder of TICAH: The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health (TICAH), Nairobi Kenya

“I am moved beyond words. I thought I knew these elephants but today I feel like they have been introduced to me afresh. This book is a gift to Tim and all the elephants of the world. I love it - so many words in this book resonate with me.”

—Dr. Winnie Kiiru, Elephant Biologist, Conservationist, Kenyan Trustee - The Amboseli Trust for Elephants, Director of Government Relations – Elephant Protection Initiative (EPI).

“The three nights we had together were very special and also unique because anything that we wanted to see just showed up automatically. It was like someone was communicating with us and also directing us cuz to me it was something very new, I am used to driving for kilometres to find the big tuskers, but it was very easy for us.”

—Julius Memusi Pilipili, Professional Safari Guide and Photographer

“The Wisdom of Elephants intertwines spectacular photography, the challenges of wildlife conservation, and the importance of storytelling, to raise awareness of the numerous concerns surrounding Africa’s gentle giants.  It is clear that Kathy’s career working with trauma survivors set her up well to understand the plight of elephants as they lose their relatives and territory. Kathy’s stunning images of Africa’s last remaining tuskers are an enduring inspiration to those who care about them, and to those who work for their conservation.”

—Ryan Snider, Ph.D. Director, Socially Responsible Safaris

“Thank you for bringing to life the importance of elephants and their crucial complex role they play for a healthy environment. Elephants and indigenous communities are unfairly on the front line of the harsh reality of climate change. We need to change our behaviour to see a healthy balance return for people and wildlife to co-exist. Where will we go for our spiritual quest and reflection and healing when nature no longer exists.”

Katie Rowe Co-Founder Reteti Elephant Orphanage

“Thank you for seeing the world with kind eyes, capturing that viewpoint, sending it out into the world and into my heart.”

Maria Cannon

“Wow! Thank you for creating this amazing treasure. I’ve only just started reading it and enjoying the remarkable photography. I’ll never see an elephant the same way again. Thank for making such a wonderful dent in the universe.”

Michael Chaffin

“Kathy is a master storyteller, a seer, a courageous woman with a heart large enough to understand the elephants, her Maasai guides, and a world aching for healing, change, and survival. I love the book, could not put it down. Support Kathy’s efforts to save these wise beings.”

—Joann Malone

“The Wisdom of Elephants is awesome! I am so grateful to you Kathy for putting so much of yourself into this book as well as sharing your remarkable photographs.   What a joy this book will be for me as I know each time I open it I will feel inspired and encouraged....”

Nicky Tucker

“I am speechless, nothing I say will be an adequate response to your marvelous ELEPHANTS. It is a beautiful work of art and the text is exquisite. I was sorry to reach the end.  Thank you for letting readers in on your earlier life, preparation for the lovely observations you make, and pass on so very eloquently.”
