Return to the Wild
The orphaned elephants that are cared for by the Samburu at Reteti Elephant Orphanage, are symbols of a new wave of thinking about wildlife and the environment. It goes far beyond traditional conservation methods, and dives deeper into the core value of what nature represents. Reteti.org
Thanks to the Samburu keepers at Reteti Elephant Sanctuary 13 orphaned elephants are now ready to begin their journey back to the wild. It's a journey not an event. Years of dedicated care helped these young elephants survive and heal from the trauma of losing their families.
Under the joint leadership of their human caregivers and elephant friends they are ready to become more independent and live freely in the surrounding region. There’s always the chance they may reunite with their original family when living wild again.
Vital Impacts has launched a print sale to help support this huge undertaking. The photographers who have been selected for this sale are renowned for their dedication to the planet. I am honored to support this important moment with my image The Wisdom of Elephants and highlight the vital link between empowering women, environmental stewardship, and wildlife preservation.
