“The Wisdom of Elephants takes us on an odyssey, teaching us how small and deeply interconnected our world is. Kathy's personal journey and her message are powerful and profound. She reminds us that our own fate is linked to the fate of these magnificent animals and without them, we suffer more than loss of ecosystem health. We suffer a loss of imagination, a loss of wonder, a loss of beautiful possibilities. This beautiful story is for all of us. Kathy weaves together an inspiring message of hope, showing us how we all have the ability to ignite action to shape the world we want to live in.”

I am over the moon. My first order of books arrived this weekend! Two and a half years ago I had an extraordinary encounter with the elephants of Amboseli. I returned home changed, committed to use my images and story to speak up for elephants and wildlife conservation. The Wisdom of Elephants is the result of this intention.

Celebrate with me with this short video of the “opening of the box.”

I wrote this book in an online group called Writing in Community. We had weekly prompts that covered different aspects of writing a book. Here’s an example of an early prompt about audience:

Let’s begin with an audience of one.
Who is the one person that must read your book? Why?
What is their name? Do you think they would be willing to read a draft of your book?

This was an easy answer for me. I felt the one person who must read my book was my Maasai guide Julius Pilipili Memusi. His knowledge and respect for elephants contributed directly to my experience.

I asked Pilipili to read the final draft. His response touched me so much I included it in the book. I’ll see him next month in Kenya, I can hardly wait to give him his copy! I promise I will post photos of the exchange.

The Wisdom of Elephants is for readers who love wildlife and care about nature. There is still time to pre-order your discounted signed edition here. I am so pleased with the quality of the book. Many thanks to Kevin Lenuke at Blitzprint. His detailed attention in the production of this book made a huge difference.
